The book Money Hungry by Sharon Flake is about a girl named Raspberry Hill. Raspberry's father was obsessed and addicted to drugs, when he started beating his wife Raspberry and her mother decided it was time to move out into an apartment. the apartment they lived in was in a very bed neighborhood where the "gangbangers and junkies" lived. Desperate for a better life, Raspberry becomes obsessed with making money. She does whatever it takes to earn money including, washing cars, selling old candy at school, and even skipping lunch.
In the book Money Hungry by Sharon Flake, Raspberry becomes obsessed by money and believes it is one of the most important things in life. She finds comfort and relief in having money. for example, she grabs a handful of money from her collection when she can not sleep and it helps her rest comfortably. I believe the reason why she is so driven to get money is, she believes it is the one thing that can prevent making her and her mother from being homeless. Her mother is a strong and caring woman who works two jobs, and Raspberry loves and cares about her so deeply that she becomes obsessed with keeping her mother and herself off the streets.
Raspberry soon realizes that money is bound to leave. when Raspberry is left with very little money left, she feels completely deflated and depressed. but when the money isn't there, her mother and supportive friends still are. Raspberry realizes this and soon understands that having great friends and family is much better than having money which is only of temporary keeping.
